One of the smallest international airports in the world, nestling in one of the most beautiful regions in
the world, Provence-Alpes-Côte D’Azur: the Môle-Saint Tropez airport.
This airport is special in more ways than one. Crews must have a special qualification or a mountain
qualification granted by the French authorities.
The asphalt runway, 30 meters wide, surrounded by the pine forest of the Maures Mountains, offers
930 meters usable for landing on runway 06 and 1071 meters on runway 24 for take-off. Only a few
jets are able to meet these technical requirements: in particular the Cessna Citation Mustang or the
Dassault Falcon 50, thanks to its tri-jet engines.
The airport of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez is tailor-made for top-of-the-range, customized services for a
demanding clientele: a 750 m2 terminal equipped with a bar, a 24 m2 parking area, a meteorological
station and a control tower adapted to modern aviation accommodate about 9000 aircraft and
helicopter movements per year.
These airport facilities, thanks to their strategic positioning on this territory, are a true asset: 15 km
south-west of Saint-Tropez and its mythical bay, the seaside resorts of Le Lavandou or the Corniche
des Maures, there are many activities such as nautical events like regattas, or leisure activities like
golf, or simply lazing around from beach to beach on this magnificent coastline…
A hint of history: Antoine de Saint Exupéry spent his entire childhood in the family castle of La Môle
dating from the 11th century. Some say that he flew over it one last time, on his way back from a
reconnaissance mission to prepare the landing in Provence, aboard his lockheed P-38 Lightning on
July 31st 1944.
