Description
Overview:
The Boeing 737 is a family of airliner built by the company Boeing since 1965. It is a twin-engine, single-aisle, short to medium-haul aircraft. It made its first flight on April 9, 1967. There are four generations of Boeing 737. Its main competitor today is the Airbus A320. It has been the most sold aircraft in the world, with more than 13,000 orders and more than 9,000 deliveries in April 2016.
The Boeing 737-500 is part of the second generation of the Boeing 737 family, built from 1984 to 2000 and available in three versions (737-300, 737-400 and 737-500). The first flight took place on June 30, 1989.
Commercial Features:
The Boeing 737-500 was launched by Southwest Airlines with an order for 20 aircraft in 1987. The first prototype flew 375 hours as part of the certification process. On February 28, 1990, the airline received the Boeing 737-500. The Boeing 737-500 has become a favorite of some Russian airlines, with Nordavia, Rossiya Airlines, S7 Airlines, Sky Express, Transaero, UTair and Yamal Airlines. All models were purchased second-hand to replace the fleets of Soviet aircraft, which were aging. Aerolíneas Argentinas replaced its used 737-200 with the Boeing 737-500. These aircraft are now replaced by the 737-600: these Boeing belong to the family of the B737 of New Generation. However, unlike the B737-500, sales of the B737-600 were lower for Boeing: since its introduction, only 69 aircraft have been delivered.
Technical Features:
The Boeing B737-500 is a modern, direct replacement for the 737-200, incorporating improvements in the classic Boeing 737 series. This new model allows longer journeys, with fewer passengers, than the Boeing 737-300. The fuselage length of the 500 series is 47 cm longer. This unit is equipped with more modern and economical CFM56-3 engines (1,984 units have been produced, of which 1,110 were 737-300s, 482 were 737-400s and 392 were 737-500s). The capacity of the aircraft is 140 passengers.
